final battle -- day 171

a very strange and super shocking email:

Dear Dr Lee, [WELL, she made a mistake here]

Thank you for your abstract. The reading panel for the International Conference of Messiaen Studies met this morning and have accepted your proposed paper. I have attached the registration form to this email.

Looking forward to meeting you in March.

Kind regards,

Dr Judith Crispin
Coordinator for Music
Lecturer in Composition and Orchestration
School of Creative Arts
University of Southern Queensland

I am so shocked not because I am accepted immediately (one day right after i sent out the proposal) but I wonder why they don't wait after the proposal deadline (16th Dec) before choosing which are more appropriate. It seems to me that they are doing "first come, first serve" manner.

Frankly speaking, I don't feel very positive that I can go there because I may not get well-enough conference travel fund from school while I even have to think how I can get enough to pay for the coming semester 1 credit tuition and many fees; also, the end of March would be the very final stage of my dissertation writing. So, I better stay in US.

Anyway, it is a funny stuff I found last night while I was reading/thinking seriously how I should write about Messiaen's biblical inscriptions.

some days ago, i would try my very best to go for any conference presentation. Even some months ago, i did think in this way and even wondered what I should choose if too many proposal accepted. As time goes by, my mind changed drastically. Proposal, yes, i will send because at this moment, i only need to edit a bit, then print and send out through (e)mail. Whether I will go if accepted, this doesn’t matter because 1) $$$ would be a big concern now, while school may not give me much, I do also have to plan using my current saving carefully; 2) finish my dissertation is the 1st priority over any other events. Accepted is already a little accomplishment ^_^

just take it easy . . .
